Abstract
An essay on a story told by Nóra Ní Chinnéide (1859-1936) from Rinn Ó guanaco, Co Waterford, who died before the Irish Folklore Commission was established. The international story is deftly handled by the female storyteller who also succeeds in embedding an alternative ending. This serves to throw light on the model of storytelling in general and women's largely undescribed centrality to it.
