Abstract
Reported are the characteristics of 850nm vertical cavity surface emitting lasers (VCSELs) with integrated linear diffractive gratings emitting a dual-beam output with negligible increase in threshold and excellent zero-order cancellation. Power emitted into the first orders is greater than 80. The use of a dual-beam VCSEL for measurement of surface topography using interferometry is demonstrated.
