Abstract
The brushless DC motor with trapezoidal torque/angle characteristic has enjoyed widespread use in recent years as a component of high performance servodrives. Such machines typically include high permeability permanent magnets on the rotor and a 3-phase, star-connected stator winding, which derives its power from a standard 3-phase pulse width modulated (PWM) inverter. A method of deriving a motor current signal with a 3-phase inverter is described.
