Intelligibility and negotiated meaning in interaction

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

Intelligibility is discussed in terms of the process of realizing a potential for mutual understanding, or intersubjectivity. The local management of mutual understanding, and its emergent properties within the context of an interaction are emphasized. Clinical applications of conceptualizing intelligibility as a potential rather than a property of speaker or interaction are discuss.
