Abstract
Describes a study conducted to define current capabilities for interactive processing of raster structured cartographic data and to identify potential techniques for future enhancement of these capabilities. Past raster processing development activities are summarized and current concepts are described. Data structures are recommended to increase computational efficiency of various cartographic functions associated with the production and exploitation of topological data. A system hardware and software concept is suggested to support future requirement for a complete raster compilation and revision capability.-from STAR, 22(1), 1984
