Abstract

This book brings together diverse experiences of community involvement with heritage by means of digital technologies, viewed from a variety of perspectives and disciplines. As scholars and practitioners in museum studies, digital heritage, human-centred computing and interaction design, we are examining examples of the challenges in community engagement with heritage, and of the varied set of concerns, interests and motivations that characterise them. The broad view of heritage that the book adopts includes memory institutions such as galleries, libraries, archives and museums, but also the cultural wealth of communities themselves.
