Abstract

A review of the evidence suggests that little is rigorous enough for detailed correlations. Field evidence is described for the 'pre-glacial' raised beach and platform (usually a double rock platform). The many lines of evidence used in attempts to date this feature have led to no certainty whatever: most of the favoured dates rely on analogies elsewhere. The Mell Formation is not dated but suggests abnormal isostatic uplift. Finally, low sea-level stands, and the lateglacial-Holocene record are discussed.- K.Clayton *Raised-beach*rock-platform*Mell-Formation*low-sea-level-stands.
