Abstract

Prof. Iacucci is one of the leading international experts in the field of advanced and powered endoscopy, including virtual chromoendoscopy and high-definition endoscopy, with a special interest to their application in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). She is the author of many scientific papers on this topic, including randomized controlled trials comparing various techniques of endoscopic imaging in the detection and characterization of dysplasic lesions in IBD, and studies on the definition of mucosal healing in IBD, according to changes in the mucosal and vascular patterns. Our interview focused on these topics and on the clinical implications of these data to the assessment of disease response to treatment and to therapeutic endoscopy, in terms of “colon sparing” approaches which are revolutionising common paradigms in IBD.
