Liber evangeliorum - St Emmeram's Evangeliary

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingsEntry for encyclopedia/dictionary

Abstract

A discussion on the Cracow, Chapter Library, MS 208, dated to c. 1099-1101. The manuscript containing the text of the four Gospels is embellished with a series of illuminations depicting the saints associated with the Benedictine monastery of Regensburg. It is suggested that the depiction of the emperor is related to the concept of royal power as being divinely inspired but also being hereditary.
