Abstract
Chapter 12 reflects on the role of love in midwifery education and goes on to examine the context of the past, present, and future role of love in midwifery education from the perspective of two midwifery educators with varied experiences. Through this discussion, the reader is encouraged to reflect on the barriers and the facilitators of love in midwifery education. This chapter also provides the reader with some practical teaching and learning strategies to ensure a more compassionate, loving approach for all students. One strategy considered is the use of the arts and creativity for reflection. The principles of Universal Design for Learning are presented as a foundation for inclusive, nurturing education. A love-driven approach enhances teaching and learning; helps students to navigate the complexities of life; develop resilience, self-awareness, and a commitment to self-care; and promote civility and caring in the workplace.
