Abstract
This chapter investigates the area of nanowire based biosensors for different analyte detection. The electrochemical properties of two different platforms made of gold nanowire array (NAE) and Pt nanoparticle modified gold nanowire array (PtNP/NAE) are examined in details for the detection of hydrogen peroxide. Third-generation H2O2 biosensor is prepared by covalent immobilization of horseradish peroxidase (HRP) on the self-assembled monolayer modified NAEs. Also PtNP/NAEs are used to fabricate oxidase enzyme based biosensor. A comparative study between these two systems has been performed and a state of the art comparison with these two systems is reported. Moreover, a detailed electrochemical and physical characterization has been performed using cyclic voltammetry, amperometry, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM).
