Abstract
Highlights Important processes in battery materials can be color-coded and tracked in real time. Ordered interconnected porous materials are excellent Li-ion battery electrodes. Changes to a photonic band gap reveal how the material behaves during charging and discharging. Intensity and color of reflected light at the photonic band gap is probed within a single cycle. Cycle life response and changes to material predictable by tracking photonic band gap redshift.
