Abstract

We show that loss-optimised, gain-saturated SOA-REAM-based reflective modulators have the potential to reduce upstream channel dynamic range by 18dB compared to fixed lineargain modulators in a carrier-distributed-PON application. This is achieved with minimal patterning penalties.
