Abstract

Miospore assemblages have been obtained from strata below the sub-Mesozoic unconformity in two boreholes drilled in the Celtic Sea area. Comparison with the Carboniferous miospore zonation scheme indicates that assemblages from well 58/3-1 are early Namurian in age, and those from well 48/30-1 are Tournaisian. Acritarchs and scolecodonts present suggest a marine influence in the sediments. Comparisons are made with Irish onshore Carboniferous assemblages. -Author
