Abstract

Free Space Optics system is an alternative to a wired communication system as it can provide high data rate, low cost, reliable, high transmission rate and security. Due to salient features of optical wireless communication, it has become the center of research in thought of schools of wireless communication. The analysis of modulation schemes is required to improve the efficiency of FSO based transceivers to mitigate the degradation effects of received signal occurred due to the wireless channel. Therefore, this study addresses the comparative analysis among conventional (OOK and PPM) and advanced modulation schemes (DPIM and DH-PIM). DH-PIM was observed as dominating modulation scheme at higher modulation indices (greater than 8) over DPIM while DPIM was proven to be more effective at lower values of modulation index as compared to DH-PIM. These advanced modulation schemes were found far efficient when compared to classical modulation schemes.
