Abstract

This paper evaluates the optimal packet size for successful transmission of data packets in a CDMA based wireless sensor networks with layered architecture. Energy efficiency is chosen as an optimization metric. Correlation amongst signal and two kinds of interferers (Multiple Access Interference and Node Interference) in shadowed environment has been considered. An appropriate energy model is considered for evaluating the energy for successful delivery of information packets between a node and sink. Optimal packet sizes under different node densities are evaluated to make the system energy efficient. The effects of correlation and power control error (pce) on packet size optimization are studied. Energy requirements and delay for successful transmission of file at sink in a single hop with infinite ARQ per packet is investigated for optimal packet based and other different lengths of packet based schemes. Optimized packet based transmission scheme at different node densities consume less energy with low latency and enhance life time of the network.
