Abstract

The essence of digital fluency is to make core critical thinking and information literacy skills relevant to the new challenges of the digital environment. Digital fluency is therefore: The ability to decide when to use specific digital technologies to achieve their desired outcome. By teaching young people to be values fluent, educators can help tothem to ethically re-engage and to desist from digital inhibition. Young people live in an amorphous world in which theyare presented with limitless moral and values dilemmas both in real life and online. Education needs to be ready for this challenge and to get involved in empowering young people to develop a pro-social values compass. Each basic value is described in terms of its motivational goal. Taking an ecological systems perspective to values fluency education acknowledges the composite of individual and environmental forces that mutually influence and constitute how basic values are constructed and reinforced.
