Abstract
Photonic signal processing can offer several features to phased array sensor systems that are limited or unavailable using present-day electronics. One significant feature of photonic processing is almost full transparency of the hardware to the signal type. Another important application for such signal processing is ultrasound. Using fiber-optics, optically controlled and sensed ultrasonic energy can be remoted and operated over a high tunable and instantaneous bandwidths limited due to traditional piezoelectric probes.
