Abstract

Promoting and controlling the flow of liquids requires an understanding of the relationship between pressures and flow rates, which is reviewed in this article. The factors that are characteristic of the liquid or that depend on the installation or piece of equipment where such flow occurs are analyzed. The basic principles that govern the calculations required to select pumps, valves and design installations are thus understood in fundamental terms.
