Psychobiological assessments

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingsChapterpeer-review

Abstract

The measurement of psychobiological processes during adolescence provides insight into the complex interplay of psychosocial experience and physiological processes that can indicate aspects of adolescent well-being. Psychobiological measures can indicate typical adolescent development, as well as positive and negative patterns, including vulnerability to mental health difficulties and positive youth development. The nervous, cardiovascular, neuroendocrine, and immune systems are the most frequently examined systems in research on adolescence. This article provides an overview of psychobiological systems relevant to adolescent development, with guidance on their measurement and examples of their use in psychobiological research.
