Requirements for adaptive electronic dispersion compensation in burst-mode systems

Abstract

We demonstrate that electronic dispersion compensation in 10Gb/s burst-mode links must be adapted burst-to-burst, even for bursts with the same impairment. Tap adaptation is possible with less than 500 training bits, allowing short preambles.
