Routing and network design for HEAnet

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingsConference proceedingpeer-review

Abstract

HEAnet is Ireland's national education and research network. We address the problem of deploying long-reach passive optical access points and core nodes for this network. We decompose the deployment problem into two phases. First we address the problem of locating a number of core nodes and local exchanges to cover the pool of HEAnet customers. Then, we compute the actual route that the cable would need to follow to reach every customer taking into account that there is an upper bound on the length of the path from the core node to the customer. We empirically demonstrate the effectiveness of the decomposition approach.
