Abstract

A novel manganese reagent, generated from KMnO₄ and Me₃SiCl, in the presence of a quaternary ammonium salt, is shown to smoothly dichlorinate alkenes, open epoxides and chemoselectively oxidise sulfides to sulfoxides.
