Abstract

In this paper, I will discuss the design of national schools in Ireland in relation to the school curriculum and to classroom management and organisation from the beginning of national education in 1831 to the present day. I will state the case for co-operative teaching and shared area schools as I see it and I will then look briefly at the different bodies and agencies involved in education in Ireland and their role in any educational innovation, particularly in this innovation-shared area schools.
