Abstract

Palliative care is a treatment approach that supports individuals who are living with serious chronic health conditions or declining health as they approach end of life. It is based upon the following goals: providing relief from pain and other distressing symptoms, offering a support system to help patients live as actively as possible until death, integrating the psychological and spiritual aspects of care, and offering a support system to help the family cope during the patient’s illness (World Health Organization, 2019). It is a multiprofessional and systemic view of care in which patients, family, and practitioners are integrated in an interactive system (Gramm et al., 2020; Pollens, 2012).
