Abstract

An eight channel spectrally sliced dense wavelength division multiplexing passive optical network (DWDM-PON) was designed. The network was capable of supporting Gigabit Ethernet rates over 25 km of standard fiber with negligible crosstalk and less than 1 dB dispersion penalty. A high output power and low noise performance was obtained by the use of seeded travelling wave reflective semiconductor optical amplifiers (SOA) for modulation.
