Abstract
The RD Center (research and development) of a Chinese multinational company subsidized in Brazil has been making open innovation a synonym of its strategy to reduce the innovation cycle and hence adding more and more value to their products quickly. Partnering with other RD centers worldwide from company, universities and research institutes in Brazil has yielded many advances, several projects were developed and helped put the company at the forefront of the Brazilian digital TV system. However, the company is still looking to make adjustments to your model of open innovation, leveraging new forms of partnership to create an ecosystem for generating disruptive innovation. It is precisely in this scenario that the Chinese multinational tries to approximate the RD Center of small technology companies (startups) who organize from their ingenuity and need financial support and business to take their projects forward. Thus, the RD center can be the bridge for approaching these startups, injecting not only financial resources, but also to use its infrastructure, expertise and partners to work together in order to mature the product of startups and develop a business model that can leverage and generate disruptive innovations for the products of the multinational. The focus of this study is to explore precisely how the process of open innovation developed by this Chinese multinational in Brazil can be improved by taking advantage of the flexibility and dynamism inherent in startups.
