Abstract

Miospore assemblages of variable quality have been recovered from 47 surface and sub-surface samples from most levels within the Dinantian and early Namurian succession of Northwest Ireland. Preliminary results show that the miospore zonation scheme of Western Europe can be applied in this area and a local biostratigraphic framework based on miospores has been established. Apart from the southeastern part of the study area there is no palynological evidence for pre-Visean strata over the major part of the Northwest Carboniferous Basin.-Author
