Studies of kinetics and thermodynamics of catalytic esterification reaction between acid and alcohol

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

Study of kinetics is very important in chemical process industries. Further, esterification process is also very common in chemical industries. This experimental investigation is carried out with the objective to study the kinetics of esterification reaction involving acids and alcohol as reactant and using sulfuric acid as a catalyst. In the present study, various experiments have been carried out using the batch reactor in the laboratory applying different combinations of temperature, mole ratio, catalyst concentrations. Finally a kinetic expression, as a function of these parameters, has been investigated and the associated thermodynamics has been which deals with the effect of temperature on equilibrium constant. This data can be investigated by considering butanol and acetic acid esterification reaction. Order of reaction is found graphically and represented as a second order reaction.
