Abstract

This article is a personal memoir of my relationship with Carysfort College of Education from my time as a student there in 1959 to the date of the closure of the College in 1988. It focuses in particular on the final two years of the College – from 1986 to 1988. As well as drawing on my memories and recollections, the paper draws on documents and papers which I retained when the College closed thirty years ago. Since I was a member of the College Board from 1982 to 1988, I have copies of Board minutes covering the final years of the College’s existence. I also have a file of newspaper cuttings relating to the key events surrounding the closure. In addition, I kept my own personal notes of meetings and events which I attended, some of which are virtually a verbatim record of those meetings.
