Abstract

This online memory map, which presents short excerpts from our extensive oral history archive, is an exercise in public qualitative research dissemination, in digital cultural heritage practice, and in engagement with and representation of the social and cultural fabric of the city. Short excerpts from qualitative audio interviews are presented along with their transcription, linked to a relevant point on the city map. This project engages with cultural heritage archival and display platforms, and is linked to our broader project of making our archival catalogue available online. The project itself serves as public dissemination for browsers, as an educational resource for schools, and as a model for thoughtful online dissemination of oral history (see also our public training manual for practitioners). It will link into our broader online catalogue: this linkage will serve to make the broader resource more discoverable, and the broader resource will provide the contextual information to render the map a valuable research resource in and of itself. http://storiesofplace.org/neatline/show/stories-of-place
