title = "The EvacSim pedestrian evacuation agent model: Development and validation",
abstract = "EvacSim is a multi-agent building evacuation simulation featuring pedestrian occupant agents occupying two-dimensional continuous free-space to simulate pedestrian egress for building evaluation and evacuation planning support. We detail pedestrian model elements that govern microscopic agent movement such as personal space preservation, obstacle avoidance and moving together as a crowd. We validate the EvacSim pedestrian model against real-world pedestrian data, comparing flow rates, density and velocity for corridor entry and for merging crowds, and we demonstrate that EvacSim simulations are consistent with the real-world data.",
