The foundations of bet hedging

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

The paper revisits the conceptual foundations of bet hedging in evolutionary biology. The aims of the paper are twofold. First, the paper highlights some problems associated with the orthodox definition of bet hedging found in the biological literature and the more liberal notion of bet hedging recently proposed by Yasui (Ecol Res 37:406–420, 2022). Second, the paper proposes a richer taxonomy for classifying evolutionary responses to unpredictable environmental variance.
