The growth and characterization of PbZrxTi1-xO3 single crystals

Abstract

A method for growing single crystals of PbZrxTi1-xO3 from pure PbO flux is presented. Previous attempts at growth a from fluoride, phosphate and borate fluxes are described. Characterization of these crystals by X-ray, optical and dielectric measurements show that within the ranges 1 ≥ x ≳ 0.84 and 0.25 ≳ x ≥ 0 the crystals are of reasonable quality. The method of crystal growth is discussed in terms of phase equilibria in the PbO-ZrO2-TiO2 system.
