Abstract

In this paper I propose to address the issue of the Junior Cycle curriculum under the following headings: 1. The historical origins of the Junior Cycle curriculum in Ireland and developments in the early years of the Free State 2. Changes after the Second World War 3. Developments in the past 25 years 4. Reports of the Curriculum and Examinations Board 5. The National Council for Curriculum and Assessment and the new syllabi for the Junior Certificate Examination.
