Abstract
The vector analysing power of the 89Y(d, n0)90Zr reaction has been measured for lab angles between 2.5° and 45° at a deuteron energy of 11 Me V. The angular momentum and parity of the transferred proton are known to be jpπ = 1 2-, but the angular dependence of the vector analysing power is similar to that observed in (d,p) transitions with jnπ = 3 2-. The results of distortedwave calculations are in qualitative agreement with the measured angular dependence of the (d, n) vector analysing power and predict a j-dependence for (d, n) reactions similar to that observed in (d, p) reactions. These calculations indicate that the observed difference in the vector analysing power between (d, n) and (d, p) reactions arises primarily from Coulomb effects in the outgoing channel.
