Ultrasonic evaluation of ceramics during manufacture

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingsConference proceedingpeer-review

Abstract

Ultrasonic techniques have been used to monitor the slip-casting kinetics of silicon nitride ceramics and link them to the properties of the slip. Novel methods of testing the green state ceramic have been investigated, using both non-contact transduction and a non-wetting gel couplant. The latter technique allowed C-scan images to be formed of green state and sintered samples, so that changes in acoustic properties caused by firing could be examined.
