Abstract
This paper was written when the author was a member of the Curriculum and Examinations Board which had been set up by Minister Gemma Hussey in 1984. She was chair of the board's Joint Committee which reviewed the primary and junior cycle curriculum. The paper includes a brief historical background to the development of junior cycle curriculum in Ireland since 1922. It draws on the experience of other jurisdictions to suggest how Ireland might reform its curriculum for 12- to 15-year-olds.
