Abstract

The decision-making regarding wave energy exploitation within a coastal region should the based on different aspects, amongst which the energy production that Wave Energy Converters (WECs) would generate is of paramount importance. This stems from the need for comparing the performance of different WECs at different coastal locations and, on this basis, to select the most appropriate location and technology or WEC-site combination. In this work, a procedure for the characterisation of the wave resource, allowing accuracy in the computation of the energy production of any WEC at any coastal location, is implemented in the Galician Coast, NW Spain. The same procedure could be implemented in any other coastal area of interest for wave energy exploitation.
