I have worked as a part-time member of staff in the School of Education (2014-2022). I have acted as assistant to the programme director of the BSc Science Education, my role involved lecturing, laboratory management, working as a laboratory tutor, teaching placement tutor, research and administrative duties.
I have written several journal articles in the field of Education, particularly on the role of Online Learning in Education. I has been involved in the editing of several published textbooks for the Irish Education System. I have spoken at conferences both in Ireland and abroad and I am involved in the organisation of many workshops in the area of education, online learning and assessment.
I currently serve as an Irish representative on the OECD science committee for the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA), on the PISA National Committee of Ireland and also currently serve on the Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) committee. I am member of the executive of the International Council of Associations for Science Education (ICASE) where I serve as Membership Secretary. I previously served as Chairperson and Treasurer of the Cork branch of the Irish Science Teachers’ Association (ISTA).
Biography
Dr. Ryan Gallagher is a full-time Lecturer in BEd Science Education serving as assistant to the Programme Director in the School of Education, at University College Cork (UCC).
I graduated from University College Cork Ireland with a BSc in Science Education (chemistry specialism), an MEd in Education (by research) and a PhD in Science Education. I have spent 10 years teaching science at secondary school level, I was head of the chemistry department in St. Aloysius College, Carrigtwohill and I significantly contributed to the increase in student uptake of chemistry since I started teaching there.
