Research Interests

Dr Healy's research agenda examines critical issues impacting on accounting practices and accounting pedagogy.  Research outcomes directly influence the design of the accounting curriculum, impacting the development and professional preparation of incumbent members of the accounting profession.
  • Professional Identity and Organisational Socialisation
My research investigates how the accounting profession represents itself to entrants and as a key stakeholder in SDG #8 [Decent Work and Economic Growth]. I also address the widening participation agenda of Irish higher education, inform initiatives concerning diversity within the accounting profession and reflect SDG #4 [Quality Education], supporting inclusive and equitable quality education and lifelong opportunities.
  • Professional Competences and Capabilities
My research addresses theoretical understanding of competences and capabilities needed of accounting and business professionals. Professional scepticism (PS), a cornerstone of high-quality audits, is essential to professional practice and public assurance. I consider the nature of PS and key factors impacting individual PS levels, evaluating how PS may be developed in education and through experience.  Outputs benefit future initiatives to address public confidence in audit work and enhance training experiences of future professionals.
