Marguerite Nyhan
Research Profile
Biography
I am Full Professor of Engineering for Sustainability in the School of Engineering & Architecture
at the National University of Ireland - University College Cork.
I founded and now direct the Nyhan Sustainable Futures Research Group which harnesses new and emerging digital technologies for improving our understanding of the science of sustainable, healthy, liveable and equitable future cities. I have interdisciplinary expertise in sustainable cities, urban environmental engineering, urban studies, urban analytics, emissions modelling, air quality modelling, population exposure modelling, environmental epidemiological modelling methods and environmental justice. My research has been published in leading academic journals including Nature and Nature Cities.
As lead Principal Investigator, I have been awarded over €7 million in funding for both ground-breaking research and pioneering educational programmes. I am lead PI on the nationally coordinated Sustainable Futures project which focuses on research-driven interdisciplinary sustainability education. I established the Sustainable Futures Lab and founded and chair the Sustainable Futures Forum at University College Cork.
I have world-leading international research experience from spending six years working at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Harvard University and the United Nations in the United States.
