Biography
Ann is a registered pharmacist and postdoctoral researcher in the Department of General Practice in UCC. She has previously held the position of postdoctoral researcher in the Department of General Practice in RCSI University of Medicine and Health Sciences.
Her research focuses on characterising problematic polypharmacy in older people attending general practice as part of a Health Research Board (HRB) funded grant awarded to Prof Emma Wallace. Her research activities involve interdisciplinary collaboration and uses mixed methods including systematic reviews, qualitative methods and quantitative analysis of large administrative and research datasets.
She is a member of the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland (MPSI) and an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (AFHEA).
Anns research interests include medicines optimisation in older adults, pharmacoepidemiology, positive ageing, integrated care, burnout among healthcare professionals, latent variable modelling and longitudinal measurement modelling.
Ann graduated with a BSc (Hons) in Pharmacy from RCSI in 2006 and following completion of her preregistration training in community pharmacy became a member of the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland (MPSI) in 2007. Following many years working in community pharmacy, she completed a BSc (Hons) in Psychology at Ulster University in 2017. Ann was awarded a Vice Chancellors Research Scholarship at Ulster University and completed her PhD research in the School of Psychology in 2020. Her PhD thesis, entitled Patterns of healthcare utilisation in older people: secondary data analysis of service evaluation and epidemiological data, involved a collaboration with the Medicines Optimisation in Older People (MOOP) team of the Medicines Optimisation Innovation Centre (MOIC), in conjunction with analysis of The Irish Longitudinal Study on Ageing (TILDA) dataset.
