Dr. Alphonsus (Alfie) Keary has worked in the ICT industry and the corporate sector with Nixdorf Computer and Siemens. His business and research activities have included computer mediated communications (CMC);  cloud based software services; ICT consulting and education services as well as interactive web based learning services.

Keary has taken numerous industry specific training programmes in ICT, has studied at the Irish Management Institute (IMI) and completed an Enterprise Development Programme managed by the Dublin Institute of Technology.  Keary is a graduate of University College Cork (UCC), (Mathematics/Computing and Economics), the National College of Ireland (Knowledge Economy Skills Passport), National University of Ireland Galway (NUI-Galway) and Regis University, Denver, Colorado. In 2010, Keary graduated with an MSc degree in Software Engineering and Database Technologies (MScSED), a joint degree from NUI-Galway and Regis University, Denver.

Following up with further research proposals and publications, in 2012, Keary was awarded a full time PhD Risam scholarship by the Cork Institute of Technology (CIT), Ireland. In taking up his scholarship at CIT, Keary returned to full-time education in 2013. Since then his PhD research work and interests have involved the fields of affective computing (AC), artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), Internet of Things (IoTs) , affective sensory technologies, multimodal sensory fusion architectures and engineering, and systems and technologies for human machine/robot interaction (HMI/HRI).

Keary is now advancing his research career as a senior researcher at the Tyndall National Institute which is part of UCC, Ireland.
