  • I am particularly interested in the assessment and teaching of empathy. To this end, I have developed the Curtin Vicarious Response Scale (CVRS), a research tool specifically developed to evaluate emotional responsivity in clinical practice.

    My research strategy is to develop CUDSH as a centre of excellence for the assessment of empathy/ emotional responsivity in clinical practice.

                      I was an invited guest lecturer by the Continuing Dental Education programme for dental staff of the Health Service Executive (HSE) for Dublin, Wicklow and Kildare. (2011). St James’s hospital Dublin, Ireland.

                      I was the overall Co-ordinator of an Experiential Dental Workshop for students who wished to pursue a career in Dentistry in April 2011.

                      The aim was to provide prospective dental students [from the greater Munster area] with an overview of the dental undergraduate programmes  BDS, Dental Hygiene and Dental Nursing. The workshop addressed the following topics,

                      introduction to human dentition, patient management, cross infection control, specialties in dentistry and dental materials.

                      I was an invited Guest Lecturer by Prof F McNicholas Course Director in Postgraduate Diploma in Child Mental Health to deliver a workshop on Counselling and Communication Skills (UCD, 2012).

                      Judge on the Undergraduate Awards Psychology Panel. 2015

                      Reputable academics from around the world are invited each year to assess the entries to the Undergraduate Awards programme. The aim is to select an Irish, International and overall winner in a category.

                      Teaching Role:

                      I am responsible for the development, delivery and assessment of the Behavioural Science components of the Bachelor of Dental Surgery Degree Programme (DS1002; RD2007; RD3008, RD4001, RD5002); Dental Hygiene programme (RD1002; RD2002); Dental Nursing programme and the Doctorate in Clinical Dentistry (OH7003). 
                       

                      I have been an invited lecturer on both the MA in Forensic Psychology and Diploma in the Psychology of Criminal Behaviour programmes in UCC,(2008/2009)

                        
                      I am the appointed co-ordinator of the Dental School & Hospital Mentoring Programme which provides academic and personal support for undergraduate BDS; Dental Hygiene and Dental Nursing students.

                      I am the RD 2007 Module Co-ordinator Introduction to Clinical Dentistry  and the overall year co-ordinator for BDS II commencing in 2010
