GeneralContext Fragment of a cross-shaft.
Location South porch at Bakewell.
GeneralDescription This is a fragment of a cross shaft, which is thought to be Anglo-Danish, and is dated to the middle of the tenth century (no. 13 at Bakewell).
GeneralDescription There is cable moulding on the left side of this fragment.
GeneralDescription On the right there is the remains of a beast, but his head is missing. His body is covered with scales, and he is standing on a coiled serpent. Another creature may be an eagle. There is also a figure which may be a man upside-down.
